Wadowice
This small town situated some 50 km away from Krakow is known first and foremost for the fact that it is the birthplace of Pope John Paul II. The central point of the town is the market square with theBazylika NMP (Parish church), with the famous Baptismal basin where the Pope was baptized. Next to the church you will find the Pope's birthplace, where the Muzeum Ojca Swietego Jana Pawla II (museum) is now located. It encompasses the former home of the Wojtyla family as well as the neighbouring rooms on the 1st floor. Many artefacts and memorabilia from the pope's life are presented.

 

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska
This small city is situated in a valley, around 35 km from Krakow, and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites, apart from Czestochowa, in Poland. The beginnings of the city date back to the 17thcentury when Mikolaj Zebrzydowski - The Voivode of Krakow, while assessing the topography of his land, found a striking similarity between its location and the location of Jerusalem and other places described in the holy bible. This inspired him to commission the construction of a Sanktuarium (church and monastery). Over the years, an entire complex of chapels and churches picturesquely weaved into the natural landscapes of the Drozki Kalwaryjskie (Kalwaria boulevards), had been built. Scattered over the hills and in the valleys, it creates a unique panorama, along with the Klasztor oo. Bernardynow (The Bernardine Monestary), which is one of the city's main attractions.

Every year, numerous religious feasts, in which thousands of people from Poland and abroad take part, are celebrated here. The largest concentration of pilgrims takes place during the holy week (Easter), (during which the local residents re-enact the last days of Jesus' life), and during the festival of the assumption. The monastery and zalozenia kalwaryjskie have been entered into the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list.
